About North Star.
A Twin Cities HVAC shop built on fast response, straight talk, and work that holds up. Twenty years in, we still answer the phone ourselves.
Twenty years of fixing furnaces in Minnesota.
North Star was founded in 2003 by Mike Olsen, a NATE-certified technician who'd spent seven years at a large metro contractor and wanted to do the work differently.
He wanted a shop where the techs who answered the call were the techs who showed up at the house. Where the price quoted at the door was the price on the invoice. Where no one tried to sell a $12,000 furnace to a family who needed a $340 inducer motor.
Twenty years later, that's still the business. North Star runs eight licensed technicians out of a Roseville shop, covers the full Twin Cities metro, and takes on roughly 4,800 service calls a year. Mike still takes calls himself and still runs the dispatch board most mornings.
Every technician on the crew has been with the company at least three years. That matters: when a tech knows how a 1970s Minneapolis bungalow is piped and what a 1998 Carrier 58P usually does when it short-cycles, the diagnostic takes half as long. The customer pays for the fix, not for the technician's learning curve.
This is the kind of shop we are. If you've read this far, call us. We'll either take care of the problem, or we'll tell you honestly why we're not the right fit.
Four things we won't compromise on.
These are the rules the shop runs on. Every tech knows them. Every call is measured against them.
Honest diagnosis
If a repair doesn't make financial sense, we say so. A 22-year-old furnace with a failing heat exchanger is a replacement conversation, not a $900 patch job. We'll tell you which one it is.
Upfront pricing
You get a quote before work starts. The number on the quote is the number on the invoice. If we find a second problem mid-job, we stop and talk to you before touching anything.
Same-day when we can
Most repair calls are completed same-day or next morning. In peak season, dispatch triages: no-heat and no-cool calls jump the queue, and the emergency line is answered 24 hours.
Guaranteed work
Every repair carries a 1-year parts and labor warranty. If the same fault recurs, we come back at no charge and finish the job properly. Installations carry the full manufacturer warranty plus our own labor warranty.
Roseville, Minnesota.
The shop sits on County Road B2 in Roseville, centrally located so trucks can reach any part of the metro quickly, from Woodbury on the east to Minnetonka on the west, from Burnsville on the south to Blaine on the north.
If you'd rather talk in person before scheduling anything, Mike or one of the lead techs is usually around during business hours. We don't do high-pressure sales calls, so a shop visit is just a conversation.
Licenses, certifications, and dealer relationships.
HVAC is a licensed trade in Minnesota for a reason, gas lines, electrical, and refrigerant all demand accountability. These are the licenses and relationships we maintain.
